description:
The memories and family histories of Hubert and Nellie May (Walker) Wesselman of the Bear Creek Valley, Morrison, Jefferson County, Colorado, as written by their daughter Frances L. Ourada. The memoirs begin with Wesselman and Walker family genealogies and how and when each line came to Colorado from Germany in 1901 and Missouri in 1915. Many pages are devoted to the transcription of Hubert Wesselman’s WWI service diary. The family memoirs describe life on farms in Edgewater and Broomfield, then the farm in the Bear Creek Valley, three miles east of Morrison on Highway 285. There are mentions of attending the Semper School and the Bear Creek School, the Walker & Son Mountain View Dairy, the 1938 Bear Creek flood, and life during World War II. A hand-drawn map illustrates the area the Wesselman’s lived, worked, and played in.“The Senior Trip,” written by a young Frances Wesselman, documents the two-week long, 1946 senior class road trip with stops in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. A map and a senior class photo accompany the story.Samples of scrapbook pages scanned include Bear Creek football games and a neighbor’s accomplishments. Another page kept by Frances during her senior year in high school shows examples of tokens used for paying taxes, WWII ration stamps for gas, meat, canned foods and sugar, a war bond stamp and the new dime.Photographs include the Bear Creek School, aftermath of the 1938 Bear Creek flood, Denver Water Company’s moving of the Wesselman’s home across Bear Creek to higher ground, neighbors, family photos, and some from Morrison’s Pioneer Days celebration.
