description: Collection description:This collection consists of official bonds and oaths of office for Jefferson County’s elected and appointed officials that were filed for the record with the Clerk and Recorder, Clerk to the Board. It also includes official notices of appointment to various positions within the county; letters of application, citizen petitions and letters of recommendation written to the Board of County Commissioners regarding appointed positions; and resignation letters of elected or appointed officials and notices of revocation of appointment.This collection is not complete and has many gaps, particularly in the 1870s-1880s, 1900s-1910s and the 1930s-1940s. Just because a name is not listed in the index nor found in the collection does not mean someone did not hold a particular position.Notes about the index:The name index is arranged by surname. Many names are listed multiple times due to re-election or a person holding different positions over time. There are various forms of names such as surname with first initials only, full names, or surname with an abbreviated first name. They are alphabetized in the index exactly as they were written on the document so one needs to scan throughout the surname so as not to miss one that appears in multiple forms.The index was created for Series 227, however, oaths found in other collections are also included in the index, indicated in red. The series and box numbers of the other collection are listed in the box number column of the index. Both numbers are needed in order to find the document. Contact the archives and provide these numbers to get copies of any documents.
